Found in a dumpster at ETHDenver this LED sign originally read 'fluence'. With a little bit of soldering, it now turns on more frequently and should not be considered perfect by any means. Working or not, Affluence promotes scavengers and hopes for better practices in manufacturing and consumerism.
Mounted to wood scavenged from a shipping crate and the addition of a trashed Koda XT polycarbonate sample with the letters 'Af' painted on, this sign becomes somewhat of a conversation piece. Insight into use, reuse, built obsolescence of wasted energy, materials, and time, it's easy to see how our consumerism vs convenience and affordability actually create more consumerism, less convenience and cost more.
Currently installed as part of the exhibition American Dream Ep2 at The People's Building in Aurora, Colorado, until August 31, 2025. Artwork will be available for local pickup or local delivery after the August 31st. Thank you for understanding that it must remain installed for the entire duration of the show.
